Job Ready Employment (JRE)

The employment monitoring stage. Work in your trade under a TRA-approved employer for at least 12 months and 1,575 hours to demonstrate real-world competency.

TRA Fee: $500
Duration: 12+ months (1,575 hours)
Regional: 1,050 hours possible

What is Job Ready Employment (JRE)?

Job Ready Employment (JRE) is Stage 2 of the Job Ready Program. After receiving your positive PSA, you must complete a minimum of 12 months and 1,575 hours of supervised trade employment with a TRA-approved employer. This stage proves that you can perform your trade to Australian industry standards in a real workplace environment.

During JRE, your employer submits quarterly progress reports to TRA detailing the trade tasks you performed. TRA uses these reports to monitor your development and verify you are gaining genuine trade experience. At the end of your JRE period, TRA will confirm your employment is complete and authorise you to proceed to the Workplace Assessment (JRWA).

Finding a TRA-Approved Employer

Search the TRA Employer Register

TRA maintains an online register of all approved employers by trade and state. You can search for employers willing to take on JRP participants.

Use our employer network

Pathway to Aus has relationships with TRA-approved employers across Australia. We can often connect you with suitable employers faster than searching alone.

Register new employers

If you find an employer not on the register, we can guide them through the TRA employer approval process — many employers are willing but unaware of the process.

Consider regional employment

Regional areas often have more employer opportunities and may reduce your hour requirement from 1,575 to 1,050 hours in eligible trades.

For the full walkthrough — including exactly when your hours start counting and the multiple-employer rules — read our guide to finding and registering a TRA-approved employer, and see the most common, avoidable reasons applications stall in our JRP rejection reasons guide.

Regional Employment Advantage

Working in a designated regional area can reduce your JRE requirement to 1,050 hours (approximately 8 months) in many trade occupations. Regional employment also earns you an additional 5 points toward your skilled migration points test.

Regional areas include most areas outside major metropolitan cities. Our agents can confirm whether your potential employer's location qualifies as regional under current TRA guidelines.

Documents Required for JRE Registration

  • Copy of your positive PSA letter from TRA
  • Signed JRE Employment Agreement with your TRA-approved employer
  • Employer's TRA approval letter and registration details
  • Your work visa documentation (visa grant notice)
  • Tax File Number (TFN) — for legitimate employment verification
  • Evidence of your right to work in Australia
